Cleveland, OH (October 3, 2007) – During a ribbon-cutting ceremony on October 3, General Growth Properties celebrated the official opening of The Shops at Fallen Timbers in Maumee, Ohio. Designed by Cleveland-based, national architect, ka architecture, The Shops at Fallen Timbers is as an open-air lifestyle center, overlooking a feature lake with streetscape design that creates a showcase for upscale retailers.
This lifestyle center serves as the retail core of a 450-acre mixed-use commercial and residential development. Over one million square feet of main street shopping, a future retail village and an entertainment/dining district surrounding the feature lake with boardwalk and plaza, complement the vitality of Maumee. The detailed storefronts and freestanding retail feature the characteristics of a quaint Midwestern main street. The resulting design solution creates a gathering place, as well as, a shopping and entertainment destination to enhance this 2006 All-American City.
Kurt Palmer, the General Manager of The Shops at Fallen Timbers says “The center will attract customers for many reasons, one of which being the quality of the architecture and design. The architect’s selection of color and hardscape design, and their creation of walkable spaces along Main Street and on the lake side boardwalk, combine to create a wonderful environment for strolling, gathering, whiling away a day and people watching. We now offer great buildings, great spaces between the buildings, and great retailers behind their glass storefronts. It is a timeless design that will keep visitors coming back for decades to come.”
The Shops at Fallen Timbers includes 90 retail stores, including Dillard's, JCPenney and Barnes and Noble, plus a 14-screen Showcase Cinema with stadium seating and the most advanced theater technologies in the Toledo area. Culinary options including P. F. Chang’s China Bistro and five other restaurants overlook the water in the Lake District.
“The design of three use zones, Main Street, The Lake District and The Village within the development enhances the shopping experience, “ says Cheryl Steigerwald, Senior Project Architect. “While each district has its own character, a consistent look and identity is maintained by a series of similar elements featured across the center,” she added.
The Shops at Fallen Timbers marks the second project completed by ka for General Growth Properties. The expansion and renovation at Beachwood Place in Beachwood, Ohio was completed earlier this year.
