The $460 million Westfield San Francisco Centre is the result of a partnership between Forest City, developer of 835 Market Street, and Westfield, owner of Westfield San Francisco Centre, which includes Nordstrom’s, Bloomingdale's and more than 170 other specialty shops. All these components form to make this the largest urban shopping center west of the Mississippi.
The development incorporates a cherished historic landmark, The Emporium Department Store, built in 1896. Its distinctive facade, which survived the infamous 1906 earthquake and fires was restored to its original gradeur, and its famed, 102-foot-diameter, 500,000 pound glass and steel dome was restored and raised 58 feet to allow natural light through its ornamental glass skylight and lunette windows. The dome is the centerpiece of a 200-foot long, 65-foot wide atrium and promenade.
Westfield San Francisco Centre contains over 1.1 million square feet of retail space, 245,000 square feet of class A office space, a 53,000 square foot Century Theatres nine-screen multiplex, and restaurants. It is the only urban retail center distinctively anchored by two stores, including the West Coast flagship of Bloomingdale's.
